Our Buying Process
We offer two standard purchasing methods; Outright Purchases and Refining Settlements both have their Pro's and Con's. Using Karat Gold (Scrap loose Jewellery) as an example of inbound material.
This is how the Outright Purchase Process Works:
Established Customers can either bring in or mail in their product. Using our printable Packing list, fill out a detailed description of what you’re selling. Separate your different material grades, i.e. 10kt, 14kt etc. and indicate the weight and value.
We then open and verify your package to your written packing list, this is done under strict security camera view. Any discrepancies will be noted and you the customer will be informed right away prior to any further processing. Packages mailed in but appear to be tampered with will be rejected and sent back to sender.
Once you’re material is assessed, graded, weighed and verified – we then offer a competitive purchase price, unless a price has already been pre-negotiated / locked in.
At any point you wish to have your items returned for re-assessment, you will only be charged with cost of return shipping and insurance. Although once you accept our settlement and/or payment – The sale is 100% Final.
How the Refining Settlement Process Works:
Established Customers can either bring in or mail in their product. Using our printable Packing list, fill out a detailed description of what you’re selling. Separate your different material grades, i.e. 10kt, 14kt etc. and indicate the weight and value.
We then open and verify your package to your written packing list, this is done under strict security camera view. Any discrepancies will be noted and you the customer will be informed right away prior to any further processing. Packages mailed in but appear to be tampered with will be rejected and sent back to sender.
We then begin the pre-refining process of Melt & Assay
Step 1. Pre inspect – Removal of magnetic non-gold items and strict inspection for hazardous items
Step 2. A documented and recorded “Before Melt Weight” is taken.
Step 3. Induction Melting of the gold, stirring, pin sample and pouring of the molten gold, ensuring a homogeneous sample is produced.
Step 4. The newly poured ingot is cleaned and a documented and recorded "After Melt Weight" is taken.
Step 5. Analysis of the pin sample and/or newly created ingot, we achieve accurate results from either XRF analysis and/or traditional fire assay.
Step 6. Settlement and Payment is performed. Customers may receive bullion/coins or dollars in payment.
If at the end of the process you are not happy with the final assay, you have the option to go to umpire. This means we send out a sample to an independent third party for another opinion. The difference in assays from the independent assayer and our initial results will then be used as the final settlement outcome.
